Kaguya Otsutsuki eats the God Tree's fruit and becomes the world's first — and most terrifying — chakra wielder. Her son Hagoromo, the Sage of Six Paths, tames chakra into something teachable, splits the primordial Ten-Tails into nine living beasts, and dies leaving one unanswered question: which of his sons was right?
Indra, the prodigy, believed peace comes through power — his line becomes the Uchiha. Ashura, the late bloomer, believed peace comes through bonds — his line becomes the Senju and Uzumaki. The Sage chose Ashura; Indra never accepted it. Their chakra has been reincarnating into new rivals ever since.

Beside the feud runs the series' answer to it: the will passed master to student — Jiraiya → Minato → Kakashi → Naruto → and, in the next era, Boruto. Every generation of the quarrel is also a generation of somebody refusing to give up on a student. The whole franchise is these two cycles arm-wrestling: inherited hatred vs. inherited faith.
