“MobLand” Finale Ends The Battle But Sets Up War

Guy Ritchie has had a wild career, from films to video game trailers to music videos and so many more mediums, but Television is one platform he has barely touched. After a poorly received TV adaptation of “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” all the way back in 2000, Ritchie did not take on any television projects for decades, until 2024’s spin-off of his 2019 film of the same name, “The Gentlemen”. “MobLand” was the acclaimed Director’s first original series not based off of one of his previous movies. It is worth noting that this series was originally intended to be a spin-off of Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” but ultimately evolved into the story of the Harrigan’s instead.
The “MobLand” season finale had it’s high points, but didn’t serve as a series finale. Although the series hasn’t officially been renewed, during a video Interview with Deadline, Producer David Glasser stated that “Yes, there will be.”, when Tom Hardy was asked if there would be a season 2. That seems like a soft confirmation and unless any cast or important crew members get caught up in a major scandal, we should get to see the next chapter in “MobLand” sometime in 2026. Warning, beyond this point there are spoilers for the “MobLand” season finale.

The finale opens with the nicest Harrigan (Kevin), baring his soul to a man he just murdered. Granted, the man was a vicious abuser and deserved it, but Kevin who is masterfully played by Paddy Considine uses this speech to show us his gradual self realizations towards his own family and their collective madness. Considine, who last wowed us as King Viserys Targaryen in “House of the Dragon” once again delivers a powerful performance by someone struggling with the depths of their power. The patriarchs of the crime family (Pierce Brosnan & Helen Mirren) spend the entire episode in jail, and don’t make much of a difference…except for when Maeve (Mirren) turns Eddie (Anson Boon) into an imminent human timebomb which later leads to Eddie almost murdering his own mom. Harry (Tom Hardy) remains to stay one step ahead of the opposing crime family right up until the end by pulling a masterful triple cross using the mole that has been embedded in the family for some time.

The storyline with the police seemed a bit abrupt, but Kevin’s rise to the head of the family was a more meaningful story which deserved time. Seeing Harry meet with Kat was an important scene and given the fact that she pretended to not know Seraphina tells us possibly who the next mole in the family might be. The stakes do seem higher in season 2 as Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell) wasn’t ever spoken of as a feared crime boss, while characters all seem to tense up whenever Kat is mentioned.
In a final jump scare, Harry gets stabbed pretty thoroughly by his own wife…on accident, but he seems like he could be mortally wounded. Executive Producer Jez Butterworth has confirmed that Harry will in fact survive his wound, so this serves as more of a reminder that he needs to balance his family better.

Overall, the finale was packed with twists, turns, violence and definitely deserves a binge-worthy stamp for the season from our team. We’ve seen the family in the midst of a war and losing family members, so what lows can Ritchie bring the Harrigans to in season 2? Eddie is a budding psychopath who may end up causing serious damage inside the family but the outside dangers are very shadowy and ominous..for now.

Did you see the finale? What did you think? How long before the Harrigan’s go back to war with a bigger fish in a much bigger pond? Was “MobLand” worth the watch? Let us know your opinion in the comments below!
