Stranger Things” Season 5 Finally Sets The Dates, But Will The Fans Be There?

It’s now been over 3 years since we have seen any new material from “Stranger Things” and the gang over at the upside down, but apparently we’ll have to wait a few more seasons before we get to see the swan song of this cult classic series.
During their TUDUM event, Netflix enlisted a handful of the shows cast to help announce the multiple dates they have set to close out the series. The streamer also released a date announcement video which featured iconic moments from the show leading up to the end of the line for our once children heroes who are now very much adults. The ragtag team of bandits who want to save the world from the horrors that have been unleashed from the upside down are finally getting together for one last party. Warning, beyond this point there are spoilers for “Stranger Things”.

The final eight episodes will be broken down into three parts of differing lengths. Part 1 will be four episodes, released on the night before Thanksgiving, November 26th at 5pm P.S.T., the same time each installment will drop. The time of day for the releases is very outside of the norm for Netflix, but they must have faith in one of their flagship series to break protocol.
Part 2 will consist of three episodes and be released on Christmas Day, December 25th. The final episode will drop on New Year’s Day. So basically, Netflix wants “Stranger Things” to take over the holiday season – and we are all for it.
We will be binging the entire series at least once leading up to season 5 and our biggest concern is really how the age of the cast will affect the viewing experience. When you see actors like Carl in the Walking Dead grow 8 years in what is supposed to be 3, sometimes it pulls viewers out of the moment…will the epic delays between seasons of “Stranger Things” achieve the same outcome here?

The cast compared to how they looked in 2016 when the show was first released are almost unrecognizable, will any de-aging technology be used?
Although we are dying to know how this series end, we are also frustrated with how many years have occurred between seasons. With over 6 years passing between seasons three and five, the delays are almost comical, especially given the fact that the Duffer Brothers are not working on any other projects and none of the stars have been particularly busy since 2019.

Will this show is it stand the test of time? If the final episodes don’t break some Netflix viewership records, the chances of the planned spin-off don’t bode well for the Duffers although the fact that that series is animated kind of puts it in a completely different genre anyway. We still have plenty of time to mull over what might happen to finish the series, is Max actually alive or something more sinister? Which characters will get away from the upside down and who won’t make it to the closing credits alive?

What do you think? How can Vecna be defeated? Will any more of Elevens siblings show up? Will these last 8 episodes be worth the wait?
