Crunchyroll Sets January 26th For The “Attack On Titan: The Last Attack” 4K SteelBook

A black banner reading “4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray” sits above ensemble art of the main cast, and a maroon spine carries the title down the side of the case. That is the SteelBook Crunchyroll has now shown for “Attack on Titan: The Last Attack”, in the first-look images ComicBook.com published on October 21st. Its story says the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray combo pack arrives on January 26th, 2027, through the Crunchyroll Store and select retailers. The date had surfaced days earlier, since Final Weapon reported it on October 16th and The Outerhaven ran what it labeled a press release on October 17th, so the first look is the newest piece of the announcement and not the whole of it.

What the announcement leaves out is as notable as what it includes. Final Weapon says the special features for the film are unknown and that pre-orders will open on Crunchyroll’s website at a later date, and the reports name no price. The Outerhaven’s copy adds that “Let This Grieving Soul Retire” season 1 comes out on Blu-ray from Crunchyroll the same day, with promo videos and textless opening and ending songs listed for it, which makes the blank space beside the Titan release easier to see. Warning beyond this point there are spoilers for the ending of “Attack on Titan”.

What the announcement leaves out is as notable as what it includes.”

The cover art, in the images ComicBook.com posted, shows a giant silhouette with its arms spread wide above the cast, and the inside of the case is maroon with a white tree rising from its roots and a small figure at its base. The film itself is a compilation. It folds “Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS”, the two specials that closed the anime in 2023, into one 145-minute feature with 5.1 surround sound, according to Anime News Network. The Outerhaven’s copy credits director Yuichiro Hayashi with select animation updates and refinement of main cuts, and it promises an extra scene not featured in the original series. Studio MAPPA produced it, and the press synopsis puts Eren Yeager (Yuki Kaji) and the Rumbling at the center, with foes and allies forced to work together to stop him.

The film began in Japan, where it opened on November 8th, 2024, for what was meant to be a three-week limited engagement. Anime News Network reported that it sold 175,000 tickets and earned about 249 million yen, roughly US$1.59 million, over its first three days. Anime Corner later said it passed 1 billion yen and that the screening period was extended, and Famitsu says attendance went beyond 1 million. A revival followed in January 2026, starting with a Dolby Cinema version at 10 theaters on January 9th, with the standard version rolling out to theaters nationwide from January 16th, per Famitsu. By the second weekend of that revival, Anime News Network put the cumulative total at 1,760,815,040 yen, about US$11.15 million.

North America got a smaller version of the same story. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment billed February 10th, 2025 as a one-day event in the United States and Canada, in Japanese with English subtitles and in an English dub, and then extended it after what the franchise’s official English social media account called “overwhelming demand.” Box Office Mojo’s daily figures, relayed by Anime News Network, put the first day at $1,685,917, and The Numbers, also via Anime News Network, put the four days through February 13th at about $2.54 million. The film moved to streaming on Crunchyroll on April 17th, 2025, with the United Kingdom following on May 1st, so the home-video release is not the first way for American viewers to see it at home.

A second theatrical pass was scheduled this year. Outlook Respawn reported on May 6th that Crunchyroll had set a one-night return for May 18th in the United States and Canada, a 4K presentation under its Anime Nights program, which Outlook says runs on the third Monday of each month in more than 280 theaters. That outlet also describes a post-credits scene exclusive to the screening. Anime Corner’s April 2025 streaming report, though, already said the film ends with an “Attack on School Castes” special, so what exactly was new is not clear from the coverage.

Japan already has its disc, and it shows how much room there is between a bare release and a loaded one. Pony Canyon’s 4K UHD and Blu-ray set came out on January 21st, 2026, for 19,800 yen with tax, according to Dengeki Online and Anime Anime. It spans three discs: the feature in 4K, a standard Blu-ray of the regular screening version, and a bonus disc recording the “Attack Fes” event staged at K-Arena in January 2024. Dengeki Online lists the feature in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos, and Anime Anime and Famitsu tie its new 4K master to the Dolby Cinema screenings. Nothing in Crunchyroll’s announcement says the American SteelBook carries that bonus disc, that grade or that mix. It might match, and it might not, because the announcement does not say.

One earlier Crunchyroll release in North America shows how uneven these packages can be. Its November 26th, 2024 release of the two specials, “Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS”, had a limited edition with a 148-page art book, a 32-page digibook, seven art cards and two Titan enamel pins, according to Anitrendz. The only special feature Anitrendz lists for the release is textless ending songs. Where the SteelBook lands between a bare disc and a loaded collector’s box has not been announced.

The franchise has been busy. The Japan Anniversary Association registered September 9th, the date the manga began serialization in 2009, as Attack on Titan Day, and the first one arrived with 99 announcements, according to Anime Corner. One was that “Attack on Titan THE LAST ATTACK” will get ScreenX, 4DX and ULTRA 4DX presentations in Japan in 2027, the film’s first ScreenX release. ComicBook.com adds that this upgraded theatrical release does not appear to be planned for international fans at this time. Koei Tecmo’s “Attack on Titan 3” is set for December 10th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, and Anime News Network reports that MAPPA will produce an opening for it that the game adds in a later update.

WIT Studio animated the first three seasons of the anime, according to Anime Corner, and Anitrendz notes that MAPPA took over for the fourth, whose first part began in late 2020. Hajime Isayama’s manga ran in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from September 2009 to April 2021 and filled 34 volumes. Anime Corner reported in April 2025 that series producer Tetsuya Kinoshita had teased more films “like The Last Attack” in the future, though no new film has been announced.

For anyone deciding, the picture is incomplete but not empty. The date is fixed, the format is 4K plus Blu-ray, and the packaging is a SteelBook sold through the Crunchyroll Store and select retailers. The price, the extras, the audio options on the disc and the pre-order start are all still to come. Because the film has streamed on Crunchyroll since April 2025, a purchase makes sense mainly for viewers who want the better picture and sound, a physical copy, or whatever bonus material turns up. That makes the pre-order page the thing to watch, since it is likely to settle most of what the announcement left blank.

What Do You Think? Is a SteelBook with no announced extras enough to make you pre-order the finale on 4K, or are you waiting for the full contents? Would you rather have the two specials as aired or this tightened feature cut? And should Crunchyroll bring the Japanese bonus disc to the American set?

See you on the next binge!
