The rumor mill has run rampantly lately as “Avengers: Doomsday” recently wrapped production, but many have speculated on guest cameos, storylines, costumes and so much more. Known insider industry leaker account Daniel Richtman claims we will be getting the first look at ‘Doomsday’ this December 19th, as a preview for “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. This would mean the trailer comes out almost exactly a year before the Avengers sequel releases on December 18th in 2026.
Over the last few months, the has been countless speculation about the highly anticipated ‘Avengers’ movie with leaker Richtman recently confirming the return of Chris Evans and a Ghost Rider cameo. The Ghost Rider cameo is not a guarantee of Nicolas Cage, or any iteration we’ve seen on screen, just a promise to see the character briefly. There have been numerous actors who have worked on the film and commented about how big it’s going to be, but Channing Tatum’s recent claim that what is happening here is 50 times bigger than Blade’s return in “Deadpool & Wolverine” is a great vote of confidence for the movie that holds the future of the MCU in it’s gauntlet.

The film is currently being edited by a veteran who worked on Robin Williams’ classic “One Hour Photo” and will have plenty of time to make sure the sequel hits all the right spots. It has been reported by THR that healthy amount of reshooting was expected. With a cast so large, it’s hard to contain aside secrets, so we wonder how much of the rumors and leaks are true, but it does seem Chris Evans will make some sort of appearance.
The leaker Richtman has a pretty reliable history of accuracy, especially leaks about trailers. If you didn’t plan on seeing the next ‘Avatar’ in theaters, you might want to change your plans and make sure and get there early. As it stands now, the MCU will deliver “Spider-Man: Brand new Day” next July, then ‘Doomsday’ in December, with no MCU movies until the next December (20277) when ‘Secret Wars’ comes out. It is possible that Marvel Studios reinserts another film in between the fifth and sixth ‘Avengers’ movie, but after the lukewarm box office reception to “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, Disney executives may be waiting to see if a Spidey film and 2 massive Avengers teamup movies can breathe new life into a fading franchise.

A trailer release a year before the movie does seem excessive when we haven’t seen any ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day” promo, but it is possible that Feige and the team at Marvel end up also dropping a trailer for the fourth ‘Spider-Man’ in December as well. This could do well to keep Marvel in the conversation when the DCU is actively marketing their new universe with Gunn constantly tweeting and talking about their different movies and shows. A well placed trailer of Doom teasing a crazy amount of cameos on top of a Spider-Man/Hulk/Punisher triangle of action could bring cold fans back to life in anticipation of all of these massive character returns/unlikely pairings.
As is usually the case with big Marvel team ups, we can expect some infighting in the earlier parts of the movie, with the Avenegrs likely to have some kind of small battle with the X-Men and/or the Thunderbolts. The. Fantastic Four will also likely end up at odds with other heroic characters or it could end up being some type of Royal Rumble free for all. Fans were saddened earlier this week when some allegedly leaked photos of Tobey Maguire were declared to be fakes. These photos which were reportedly A.I., fueled the persistent rumors that High Jackman and Tobey Maguire would be sharing screen time together in ‘Doomsday’. We don’t think this type of teamup is out of the question, but that it is much more likely for ‘Secret Wars’ on Battleworld then it is for this upcoming film. Doom needs to take pieces off the board so that more can happen in ‘Secret Wars’, at least in the reviewers humble opinion.

It’s likely that a huge section of ‘Avatar’ fans will also be MCU fans, but it’s less probable that people will go to the theaters just to see this trailer. The promo will undoubtedly leak online the next day before Marvel ultimately opts to release the trailer online, potentially a slightly extended version during the Super Bowl. ‘Brand New Day’ will hopefully dominate in the summer box office next year and have a great end credit scene that ties directly into ‘Doomsday’ and keeps fans on the hook until Christmas time. If the MCU can’t slay in the box office for these next two movies, even ‘Secret ‘Wars’ and all the cameos in the world won’t be ab;e to save the universe, but we’re still rooting for the good guys.
What do you think? Will we get our first sneak peek at ‘Doomsday’ this year? Will Doom’s replacement of Kang end up being the final straw? Could Kang ever return in a meaningful way? Who will be the most unlikely pairing? WIll we get to see Nicolas Cage back in action as Johnny Blaze? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
