Duffer Brothers Talk “Stranger Things” Spin-Off, But How Many Unanswered Questions Will Be Addressed?

t’s not a great sign for a franchise when the orignal series ends without tying up all the loose ends in the storyline, but it usually happens to sone degree. In the last 5 years, it seems liek Showruunners and EP’s are becoming more reliant on using spin-offs to answer mysteries that the Creaators never got around to in their flagship’s run. This is a trend we’ve seen with the ‘TWD’ universe being probably the most guilty of counting on spin-offs as it ended it’s sereis with many storylines that have only been somewhat addressed by 3 new TWD-U series, with more likely to come.

The Duffer Brothers seem to subscribe to the same school of thought regarding wrapping up a mega-popular series as they’re already talking about how the ‘Stranger Things’ spin-off will answer questions that were left open ended after their 2 hour plus finale episode extravaganza. Warning: beyond this point, there are spoilers for the series finale of “Stranger Things”.

In the last 5 years, it seems liek Showruunners and EP’s are becoming more reliant on using spin-offs to answer mysteries that the Creaators never got around to in their flagship’s run.”

In an interview with Variety, the sibling team opened up about the finale, toxic fandom and how much work they’ve already put into their ‘Stranger Things’ spin-off, amongst a handful of other ‘ST’ related subjects. The Brothers deal with Netflix rival Paramount did not come up although it’s worth wondering if their recently cancelled development deal for Stephen King’s “The Talisman” was affected by their attention to future projects at the stalwart studio.

Paramount aside, the Duffer Brothers maintain that they always planned on ending the series with a D&D game and that Eleven was never going to be there. At one point, Matt reveals that their inspiration for the D7D game ending was from the originally planned ending of ET. The brothers if nothing else are relentlessly loyal to the 80’s and their inspirations with their myriad of easter eggs and homages. Both brothers refused to say whether or not Eleven was alive and apparently the only other person who knows the characters fate aside from the Creators is Millie Bobby Brown herself.

Ross did cede that Mike was not in contact with El and ‘IF’ Eleven was alive that none of her friends would ever be able to contact the again, essentially killing the idea of some kind of poignant reunion down the line in a spin-off. The interviewer had some good questions, including why it was never addressed that Joyce knew Henry, but the brothers skirted that moment as not important for this story and more essential to the play.

When the rock in the briefcase form Henry’s trauma its ch9ldhppf memory came up, the interview got a little tense. Matt looked to Ross and eventually it was agreed that the rock was “Spinoffy”. Matt continued to say: “Spinoffy, yeah. You pinned us down. So annoying. I do want to explain, just because people’s expectations go in certain directions: The spinoff is going to delve into that and explain that, and you’re going to understand it. But it’s a completely different mythology. So it’s not a deep exploration of the Mind Flayer or anything like that. It’s very fresh and very new, but yes, it will answer some of the loose threads that are remaining.”

So the brothers admit there are some loose ends in the story but don’t seem to think they are of major consequence. There were maybe some plot holes, but loose ends can be a little more complicated to address. The fact that we are not digging deeper into the Mind Flayer tells us there is potentially an origina or different type of dimension that’s adjacent to the one Henry was summoned to.

When asked when they would work on the spin-off, the Duffers revealed they already have been and they will be going back to work on the project on Monday. The Creators once again reiterated that the spun-off will have no common characters, but they did not rule out common locations or events.

The Duffers would go on to talk about the review bobbing of episode 7, “The Bridge” and the many conspiracy theories circulating the fandom about secret scenes and footage that have been cutout. The brothers maintain there aren’t even any deleted scenes for season 5, but that doesn’t stop the fandom from grasping at straws now that their beloved series has finally played it’s swan song.

What do you think?” Is there secret footage of the final season of “Stranger Things”? Will the spin-off answer ALL the questions left over after the series ended? Is Eleven alive? Will we ever see her character onscreen again? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
