Johnny Knoxville is 54 years old, but he still has at least a few more “Jackass” stunts left in him. The iconic stunt actor turned real actor first teased a new ‘Jackass’ movie in an Instagram post, which Variety later confirmed was in fact ‘Jackass 5’ and not a re-release of one of the past movies or series. “Jackass” has been gracing both the small and big screen in one way or another since 2000, so even the youngest of the franchise’s original fans is fully grown up, while Knoxville’s Generation X peers also fondly remember the show’s rise to greatness throughout the 2000’s.
The original post was a joint upload between Knoxville’s account as well as the official “Jackass” account along with Gorilla Flicks, Jeff Tremaine’s production company. The post reads: “Well a wang dang and hot damn doodle, we are starting the year off with a bang. We wanted to let you know that this summer ‘Jackass’ is back!! We will see you in theatres June 26th. More to come but wanted you to hear it from us first.” The upcoming movie was rather unexpected as the last film in the franchise, “Jackass Forever” was released less than 4 years ago, while “Jackass: 3D” came out over 15 years ago. Knoxville hasn’t been particularly busy in 2025, aside from a guest star on the wildly popular Apple TV+ series “The Studio” and a 3 episode run on the now cancelled series “The Last Frontier”, also produced by Apple.

Franchise OG’s Steve-O, Chris Pontus, Dave England, Wee Man and more are expected to return. The biggest question mark is obviously Bam Margera, who was fired from the production of “Jackass Forever” due to his issues with drugs and alcohol. It is confirmed for now that Margera will appear in ‘Jackass 5’ through archival footage. It’s unclear if some or all of the upcoming movie has been filmed, but it’s likely production is yet to occur, which leaves open the door for some type of reconciliation between Margera and the ‘Jackass’ team. Bam did reunite with Chris Pontius last December although Margera has also been outspoken about not wanting to do any more ‘Jackass’ movies.
Margera seems focused on sobriety through skateboarding and has been seen skating with numerous pro-skaters in public recently. Either way, the return of the majority of the core members and tribute being paid to their biggest stunts of the past should guarantee a movie that will satisfy longtime fans of the franchise and well as younger newcomers. The fourth film in the franchise brought on a new generation of younger, masochistic stunt men and it’s likely the fifth will also recruit some fresh names into the fold. It’s unclear whether the new blood from “Jackass Forever” – Zach Holmes, Sean “Poopies” McInerney, Jasper Dolphin, Eric Manaka and Rachel Wolfson will all be returning but it’s likely we’ll see the majority of them as there haven’t been any known beefs between them and the original crew.

On the television side of the franchise, things have been relatively quiet for the ‘Jackass’ team since they produced back to back “Shark Week” special episodes in 2021 and 2022. The 2021 episode marked the first time anyone ever actually got bit on the “Shark Week” show. The ‘Jackass’ franchise is known for pushing limits with their stunts especially when animals are involved. “Jackass Forever’ saw Johnny Knoxville face off with a live bull and end up with a brain hemorrhage, broken bones and a concussion.
Wee Man said that “this one hurt the most” about the fourth film in the franchise, so the question is, are the ‘Jackass’ team going to step it up even more? And if so, will everyone survive? All jokes aside, hopefully there are less serious injuries on the fifth and possibly final film… if the movie doesn’t resonate in the box office with fans. In the era of franchise fever where even the biggest films can flop, does ‘Jackass 5’ have a chance of dominating the box office? Or at least turning a good profit for Paramount. It’s expected that the franchise will also release a ‘Jackass 5.5’ with unused footage and pranks from the original cut as they have done with every ‘Jackass’ movie in the past two decades.

Although “Jackass Forever” only made 80 million in worldwide box office compared to 171 million for “Jackass 3D”, the fourth film’s budget was only a modest 10 million dollars (“Jackass 3D”’s budget was 20 million). The budget for the fifth installment in the franchise has yet to be revealed but it will likely be somewhere between 10 and 20 million. After a dismal year in the box office for 2025, studios are less likely to take bigger gambles on franchises that seem to be shedding followers versus growing.
What do you think? Is it time for Johnny Knoxville and company to hang up their stunt gear? Will Bam make up with the team and return for one last ride? Is this the last “Jackass” movie? Where can the pranks go from here? Will everyone survive the ride? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
