“Dune: Messiah” has recently been picking up steam with the announcement of the return of Jason Momoa to the franchise and now reports have confirmed that Denis Villenueve is actively courting Robert Pattinson for the iconic role of shapeshifting villain, Scytale.
The Dune-iverse has always maintained a cult classic following despite some less than stellar adaptations, but the 2021 reimagining by the Warner Bros. with some of the biggest young stars on the planet has made the Dune movies guaranteed Box Office Blockbusters with the potential to win Oscars. So far, the movie is still in pre-production, but their projected shooting date of July is right around the corner and the Director is already thinking of making strong additions to the franchise. Warning, there are light spoilers for “Dune” Messiah” ahead.

Legendary Pictures has been on a hot streak lately with “A Minecraft Movie” dominating theaters along with the Dune movies and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”, their 2020’s have been productive. Villenueve seems to be trying to outdo himself in the third part of his trilogy with a recent announcement about the return of Jason Momoa. Casual viewers may think it’s just for a flashback scene but fans that know the source material understand that this will be the ‘Ghola’ version of Momoa’s character “Duncan Idaho” and he will change the game for all “Gholas” or post-mortem clones.
An important piece in Idaho’s “Ghola” storyline is the ‘Face Dancer’, Scytale (who may ned up being played by Robert Pattinson). Longtime fans are excited to see the Face Dancers in action and Pattinson could e the perfect villain for the role as the Face Dancers themselves are a very conflicted and complicated people. Could Pattinson be the next Thanos? Probably not, but a riveting performance between his character and Chalamet’s is all but guaranteed.
No official offer has been made to Pattinson yet, but the actor does seem to have a penchant for good sci-fi movies so he’d says, right? The second Batman movie is the one big question mark that could derail Villenueve’s hopes to cast Pattinson but hopefully the stars and schedule can line up to make some magic happen for two great franchises.
