Fans of HBO’s immensely popular “The White Lotus” cam out in full force for it’s finale on April 6th, obliterating the series viewing record by a whopping 30%. A lot of fans were left stunned after the extra long conclusion to the season with some asking, was it worth the wait?
After not so subtly teasing a prolonged shootout (that had the feeling of a mass shooting), series creator Mike WHite made us sit through 7 long Sundays before we were back to the moment that we had almost forgotten about. Critics and fans seem pretty divided about the finale and it’s efficacy as a closer to this season’s story, which at least is proof that the show wasn’t an utter failure, Warning, spoilers below for “The White Lotus”.
Critics and fans seem pretty divided about the finale and it’s efficacy as a closer to this season’s story…
By the time the 90 minute episode stated, the shooting form the first episode seemed like a distant dream. The show managed to tie off pretty much every storyline, even though the fake-outs did start to stretch our suspension of disbelief. The issue with the resolutions were, they all seemed hollow and unrewarding – but wa that part of the message? People chasing enlightenment at a fancy resort maybe are looking in the wrong place?

The series was very entertaining to watch for the acting and writing, but could th pacing have been better? Could the resolutions have felt more balanced and less the acts of a vengeful God-Writer? It’s tough to say but overall, we were on board for this finale and consider the entire series Bingeworthy, including this season. White’s approach to this season heavily differed from the murder mystery of the first two series, but it still offered a mystery that only extended to it’s viewers. Who is the shooter? Who gets shot?
In a masterful twist, Walton Goggins’ character Rick ends up becoming the man he was trying to get revenge on the whole time. The Ratliff family dram was also very competing although we feel the decision to spare the innocent one, Lachlan, might have been a mistake. The father should have paid for his twisted plot in some form onscreen, but that wasn’t in the cards for the super shallow family.
The most innocent of characters ended up making some poorly motivated decisions, but is that just life? When Gaitok decides to “take the shot”, you can tell he loses something forever. Isn’t that good TV?

This series started as an anthology, but has allowed characters to float in and out of “The White Lotus” mix through the last two seasons. Will the next season also be connected to previous happenings or something new entirely? Where will Belinda go from here, now that her promise to get Tanya’s money was fulfilled? Will Pornchai follow her to the end of the earth? Will we ever hear about the fate of the Ratliffs?
What do you think? Was the finale a fail or fresh air? Will “The White Lotus” cast and creators win any awards?
