Will Hogwarts House Teams Give “Harry Potter: Wizards Of Baking” A Stronger Season 3?

Season 3 of “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking” premieres Wednesday, November 4th, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network and HBO Max. Collider debuted the first-look trailer, and it shows how the new contest works. The footage runs two minutes and twenty seconds and cuts off before it names a winner. Hosts James and Oliver Phelps, who played Fred and George Weasley in the films, are back at the front of the room. Everything around them has changed. Four teams of three returning bakers now compete for the four Hogwarts houses.

The tournament is the big twist. Each team has three bakers who have competed on the show before, and none of them has ever won the Wizards of Baking Cup. Earlier seasons paired bakers into duos. Carla Hall and Jozef Youssef, the judges of the first two seasons, are gone. Duff Goldman and Sarah Mountain replace them as the “Ministers of Baking.” The winning house takes the cup and a VIP trip to Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo. The season also marks 25 years since the first film. Warning beyond this point there are spoilers for the cakes, the teams and the challenges shown in the Season 3 trailer.

The footage runs two minutes and twenty seconds and cuts off before it names a winner.”

The trailer opens on an empty set. A stone hearth sits in the wall while pink smoke rolls out of it, and then the smoke turns green. The camera drifts past benches dressed in house crests and settles on a silver cup in a glass case, with striped house ties hanging from its handles. Gold lettering reads “THE MOST MAGICAL OF ALL BAKING SHOWS.” The hosts walk out of the green fog in a tan blazer and a dark jacket. A voice calls out “Accio bakers!” and the contestants arrive.

What follows is a wand lesson. A card reads “IS CASTING A NEW SPELL,” and a team in aprons leans over a counter with wands in hand. A woman in a pink cardigan points hers straight at the lens. A voice warns, “Be careful where you’re waving those things.” Another teases a baker for holding it the wrong way. Cards then read “WITH A SPECIAL WIZARDS OF BAKING TOURNAMENT” and “CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF MOVIE MAGIC.” Between them the trophy gets a close-up. A voice promises, “This special tournament will celebrate all seven stories.” The season has seven episodes, and the trailer never says which story lands in which week.

Then the trailer leaves the studio for film footage. A white-bearded headmaster in a velvet cap spreads his arms in a hall with tall leaded windows and says, “Let the feast begin.” A purple bolt of light, rolling gray smoke and a ruined courtyard with a green spell streaking across it follow in quick cuts. Two red-haired students in school robes turn toward the camera, and a voice says “Wicked.” The hosts played those boys in the original films. Putting one of the twins’ own film moments inside the montage is a nice touch, and it tells viewers the show knows exactly who is standing at the front.

A card reads “TRIOS OF CAKE WIZARDS.” The hosts stand in front of a rust-colored wall and explain the rule: “To celebrate the iconic trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione, you will collaborate in teams of three.” The next card reads “BACK FOR A SECOND CHANCE AT GLORY.” Returning bakers talk to the camera. One says their pair never won a challenge in their season, “so it would be great to win one.” Another says, “Nothing is gonna stop me this time. That cup is ours.” A third says, “I think in our season, we were probably the unexpected pair.” Cutaways show finished cakes set against digital backdrops, including a badger beside a tree stump and a red and black Hogwarts Express whose number plate reads 5972.

The houses get a roll call. A voice says, “You’ve also been sorted to represent the Houses of Hogwarts,” and names them as Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. The picture follows that order. Each trio stands behind a counter hung with its crest. The Slytherin team folds its arms. Ravenclaw’s three, in lilac and purple, grin with their hands on their hips. Hufflepuff’s three line up in pink checks, leopard print and a yellow floral dress. Gryffindor’s three stand in orange and gold stripes. The footage never puts a name on screen for any of the bakers.

The middle stretch is about pressure. One card reads “THE STAKES HAVE BEEN RAISED,” and another reads “THE COMPETITION IS FIERCE.” Around those cards, a baker presses a gray animal head onto a loaf of cake, three teammates carry a white window frame with green panes across the floor, and close-ups show a green-skinned figure with yellow eyes and a trident and a baker working a wire frame. A voice calls the whole event “really like the Academy Awards of bakers.” Then a bald judge with a goatee smiles down at a plate.

Cards read “AND THE RESULTS” and “ARE PURE MAGIC.” The showpieces appear one by one against film-set backdrops. A giant stone face looms behind a basilisk cake with a red bird perched on its head. A voice says, “I have one word to say. Incredible. This is ridiculous.” A werewolf figure stands on a mound beneath a full moon and a bare tree, with a stone hut behind it. A three-headed dog sits in front of a Quidditch stand as another voice says, “Wow, I love this. Like, you really brought this to life. This is amazing.” An ice sculpture glows blue in a shop lined with narrow boxes, and a woman in a red blazer spreads her hands. A figure in sneakers lies on a slab in a green-lit hall beneath a dark, tangled mass.

The next card begins “ONLY ONE HOUSE.” A dozen bakers stand in a row on the studio floor. A voice says, “Well done, bakers.” A girl in a school uniform with a cat’s face peeks around a door. A winged gold statue stands under Hufflepuff banners. A dragon with a golden egg beneath it blasts out a burst of fire. The purple team cheers as a voice adds, “You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.” The card finishes with “WILL CLAIM THE CUP.” The cup returns in its case. The hosts and judges line up in formal jackets. A voice begins, “The winners of Harry Potter Wizards of Baking Season 3 are…” and the footage stops there. An end card gives the date, 8/7C, and the Food Network and HBO Max logos.

A shorter teaser came first. The official Harry Potter YouTube channel posted a one-minute, seven-second version on September 1st. The hosts, in a red jacket and a gray overshirt, stepped out of the same green fireplace and said, “Hello baking fans. We’re back.” They told viewers the game had changed and promised a special Wizards of Baking tournament. The teaser gave no date and promised only “this holiday season.” It showed the four crests and a handful of showpieces, including the three-headed dog and the ice sculpture. The trailer keeps those cakes and adds what the teaser lacked: the date, the judges, the bakers and the film clips. It changes the hosts’ outfits and drops the Back to Hogwarts logo from the corner.

The format change looks smart on paper. Three bakers can sculpt, paint and assemble at the same time, and the trailer leans on that with its window frames, sculpted heads and a fire-breathing dragon. Betsy Ayala, the president of Food Network, said in a renewal statement reported by Deadline that Season 3 would bring “ambitious new creations, iconic locations and enchanting surprises.” Teams also give a seven-episode season more room to build a rivalry between houses. The show now has a built-in scoreboard.

The announced details fill out the picture. The premiere runs two hours, and the first challenge asks for cakes inspired by “Memorable Firsts” from the first film, presented against the Quidditch Pitch. A second showpiece based on favorite spells follows. Later weeks cover the Chamber of Secrets, the Dark Arts, the Weasley family and the fight between good and evil. The sets include Hagrid’s Hut, Ollivander’s Wand Shop, the Burrow and the Ministry of Magic. Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto guest judges the Dark Arts challenge in episode four. TV Insider notes that no film alumni have been announced for Season 3. Earlier seasons brought in Warwick Davis, Afshan Azad and Devon Murray as guests.

The timing helps. EntertainmentNow reports that HBO’s new “Harry Potter” series is due this Christmas, and the baking show lands weeks ahead of it. Season 2 premiered on November 2nd, 2025, with six episodes. Broadcast reported that the first season reached more than 16 million viewers. A show with those numbers and a franchise reboot on the way can afford a big swing. The risk sits with the judges. Goldman and Mountain have to prove they belong beside the Phelps twins, and the trailer gives each of them only a few seconds. That is not enough to judge either of them yet.

What Do You Think? Do teams of three make “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking” better than the duos, or did the show lose something when it left the pairs behind? Which house are you backing, and which showpiece in the trailer would you most like to see cut open? And will Duff Goldman and Sarah Mountain feel like worthy replacements for the judges you already knew?

See you on the next binge!
