Knight Edge Media reported on October 25th that Irish actor Peter Claffey has been cast as Hank McCoy, better known as Beast, in Marvel Studios’ “X-Men” reboot. Claffey plays Ser Duncan the Tall in HBO’s “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” The site billed the story as an exclusive and said it had “been told exclusively” about the casting. It did not name a source. Marvel has not confirmed the news, and Knight Edge says the studio could not be reached for comment.
The story spread fast. ComicBook.com ran it under a headline that says the Beast has been cast, though its text credits the news to Knight Edge Media. Murphy’s Multiverse put “Reportedly” in its headline, Polygon’s carries “Report Says”, and JoBlo labeled the item a rumor. No story from Deadline, Variety or The Hollywood Reporter has surfaced as of October 26th. The Express Tribune adds that ScreenRant asked Disney for comment. Warning beyond this point there are spoilers for the end of “The Marvels”.
Marvel has not confirmed the news, and Knight Edge says the studio could not be reached for comment.”
Compare that with how the earlier names arrived. In the two weeks before D23, Deadline reported that Samara Weaving would play Emma Frost and that Kit Connor would play Cyclops, citing sources both times. Its Connor story added that a small group of actors tested after the July 4th holiday. Marvel then confirmed both castings on the D23 stage on August 14th. The Claffey report has no trade behind it yet, and it describes no audition or screen test. It comes from an independent site whose editor-in-chief, Caleb Williams, wrote the piece. A single outlet carries the whole claim, and a single claim can still be right.
The name is not new. In April, Jeff Sneider reported that Marvel was looking at Claffey for Beast. Cosmic Book News described him as “in the mix” in that same story, which also said Odessa A’zion was being eyed for Rogue. Marvel then revealed its first cast at D23 and gave Rogue to Inde Navarrette. Beast was not among the names. The Rogue half of that April report did not hold. The Beast half is the one now back in play.
Charles Melton was the other actor tied to Beast. Cosmic Book News says his name circulated for months and that neither Marvel nor the trades ever confirmed it. On August 20th, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Melton was in final negotiations to play Kakashi in the live-action “Naruto” film at Lionsgate, which Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct. The Hollywood Reporter added that “Naruto” is eyeing a production start around February 2027, and Knight Edge puts the X-Men start in early 2027. That overlap makes a conflict plausible. Knight Edge says Melton tried to make both projects work and could not. Only Knight Edge makes that claim. Melton’s exit is part of its story, so it deserves the same caution as the rest.

There was an earlier signing claim as well. On September 24th, Winter is Coming relayed a report from an insider called JESTOZ that Claffey had “officially been signed” as Hank McCoy. The site noted the news was “not yet confirmed by Marvel Studios.” That was a month before the Knight Edge story, and the Knight Edge piece does not mention JESTOZ. Two separate claims point the same way. Neither has produced a statement from Marvel or a story from a trade.
The team around him is better documented. Variety reports that Marvel announced Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor X and Maya Boyd as Storm at D23, with Adam Driver as the villain Mr. Sinister. Deadline reported on September 10th that Asa Germann is set to play Angel, and Marvel’s reps could not be reached for comment. Jake Schreier directs from a script by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. The film is dated for May 5th, 2028, and Knight Edge says production begins in the UK in early 2027.
Claffey is 30 and stands 6 feet 5 inches. He made Ireland’s under-20 rugby team and signed with Connacht. The Independent says he then built an Instagram following with sketch comedy and took a chance on acting school. The paper lists his early screen credits as small, including roles in “Bad Sisters” and “Small Things Like These.” “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” made him a lead. The series premiered on HBO in January, earned nine Emmy nominations and won the Emmy for stunt performance, Gold Derby reports. Showrunner Ira Parker told The Hollywood Reporter that season 2 will “absolutely” arrive in the first half of 2027, as Winter is Coming relays. Any Marvel shoot would have to fit around that, and Winter is Coming flagged in September that an X-Men job could complicate the show’s next season.

Beast already has a screen history that Claffey would have to follow. Kelsey Grammer played him in “X-Men: The Last Stand” in 2006 and again in a credits scene in “The Marvels” in 2023. Grammer returns in “Avengers: Doomsday” on December 18th, and The Direct says a first-look photo shows him in the shirtless blue look from the animated series. Nicholas Hoult played a younger Beast in “X-Men: First Class”, “Days of Future Past”, “Apocalypse” and “Dark Phoenix.” Both versions belong to the Fox films, so a new Beast would restart the role.
The continuity question is real. Marvel is running two groups of X-Men at once, because the Fox-era cast crosses into “Doomsday” while the new team gets its own film afterward. Claffey’s age raises a second question. ComicBook.com asks whether his Hank would work alongside Professor X instead of studying under him, and Comic Basics repeats it. In the comics, Beast is one of the original five X-Men and debuted in “X-Men” #1 in 1963, according to Winter is Coming. Winter is Coming adds that he first looked like a normal man and only later turned himself blue and furry. The look is also open. Comic Basics says earlier reports claim Marvel wants a human-looking Hank with oversized hands and feet and no blue fur, and it stresses that nothing is confirmed.
Marvel’s own pattern points to a wait. The studio revealed seven names on a D23 stage rather than by statement, and Kevin Feige said then that more casting is still to come, as Cosmic Book News notes. Knight Edge also claims the search for Iceman is in its end stage, a line ComicBook.com repeats with attribution. The same caution applies there. A casting wave is clearly coming. Which names arrive first is still a guess.
The fit is easy to argue, and the sourcing is thin. World of Reel calls Claffey’s Dunk a gentle giant who is smarter and sweeter than he looks, which is close to a pitch for Hank McCoy. ComicBook.com says most X-Men fans are thrilled and calling the choice “peak.” None of that is confirmation. The next marker is simple: a story from Deadline, Variety or The Hollywood Reporter, or a statement from Marvel itself. Until one of those lands, Claffey as Beast is a report from one outlet, and it should be read that way.
What Do You Think? Is a report from one independent site enough for you to call Claffey the new Beast, or would you wait for a trade or Marvel? Should the new Hank be a human-looking scholar first, or should Marvel go straight to the blue fur? And with Grammer’s Beast arriving in “Avengers: Doomsday” first, does a second Beast help the MCU or crowd it?
