Fallout season 2 was long anticipated and has seemed to deliver the top tier numbers that Amazon was hoping for. Amazon has not revealed any viewership numbers yet, but a 97% RT score does speak volumes. The release of the new season also has given a huge assist to the video game side of the franchise, essentially doubling the player base for multiple games in the series.
While diehard franchise fans are not as convinced that the series is heading in the right direction, the critics and casual viewers all seem to approve of the nuclear post apocalyptic drama. The recent addition of the rarest of acting roles by Macaulay Caulkin as the Lacerta Legate, a member of Caesar’s Legion (hard C), has helped add to the curiosity of the series while Walton Goggins’ Ghoul remains as captivating to watch as ever. Fans have also criticized the release schedule, which has shifted from a full season episode drop to a weekly ‘water cooler’ style approach to the series. Warning: beyond this point there are spoilers for Amazon’s “Fallout” TV series.

Halfway through the second season of the series, the future is looking up. According to ProductionList.com, Amazon is looking tp get the series back on the air as soon as possible and will now be trying to start shooting in a Santa Clarita location that was used for season 2 on May 1st, approximately 2 months earlier than recently expected. Todd Howard, EP of the series and Director of the Gaming Company Studio spoke about the upcoming season just before the holidays and promised “surprises”. The exec also revealed season 3 was already in the writing process and that they would work on more incorporations from the series into DLC’s of the game, something that has already taken place for the second season. Howard also spoke about an overall deal with Samsung and XBox that sees the series as the premiere video game adaptation on the market right now and after hte lukewarm reception of “The Last of Us” in it’s sophomore season, they aren’t wrong.
After some delays, season 2 of “Fallout” finished shooting in May of 2025, so how early could we possibly see season 3? Following season 2’s model, the soho Linley wouldn’t finish production until sometime in the summer, so an air date in 2026 seems unlikely, unless they bring more editors on in the post-production process to speed things up. Rushing their most important franchises flagship series doesn’t seem liek a smart move so a 2026 date in probably a non-starter. Early spring of 2027 however is feasible and maybe even as early as February 2027.

With the surge of gaming interest in the franchise it’s unclear if more resources will be diverted towards “Fallout”, but it does seem liek a wise investment in the future of the franchise if the show continues to perform well. It is strange that we haven’t gotten ny official viewership numbers from Amazon, but unlike Netflix they are very slow and reluctant to release official numbers on a good amount of their oringial series, which says a lot through their silence and vague statements.
Amazon overall is the third largest streamer and in years passed, the have held a significant amount of high spots on the Nielsen charts, so they are definitely getting views, but it’s anyone’s guess how many any specific show is getting. Will the second half of “Fallout” pique audience interest to carry the franchise another year and change? Incorporating the seasons into gaming content is. Genius move that may pay off a multitude of dividends, as long as it doesn’t eventually get seen as a creatively baseless cash grab. For now, most fans seem happy with the direction the show is going with episodes 3 and 4 starting to really turn up the heat. On an interesting side note, the website for Amazon’s “Fallout” has a mysterious countdown that will hit zero when the season 2 finale arrives. Fans have speculated a remaster of the game “Fallout 3” or ‘New Vegas’ might be released or announced, but it could be something tied directly to the series.

The one frustrating part about season 2, at least for this reviewer is the separation of the characters that we waited so long to see teamup in season 2. This season in some ways feels like a reset, but the Ghoul really just carries the show when things get slow. Maximus (Aaron Moten) was absent from the premiere but since then has really started to take his fair share of the screentime as the social structure of the Brotherhood slowly decays. Episode 4’s flashback with the Ghoul in his days as an armor wearing soldier gives his already layered character even more depth, hopefully the finale pays off all the growth so far.
What do you think? When will we get season 3 of “Fallout” will Amazon stick the landing with the season 2 finale? Will the Ghoul ever find his family? How will Lucy get clean? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
