May 4th is usually a date reserved for hardcore Star Wars fans, but this year the TWD Universe is going to unleash the next chapter of their NYC saga, Dead City. With mere weeks away form the only true sequel to the original series (DD and TOWL were continuations of the flagship storylines), we are wondering, is this season going to be enough to reignite the flame in the hearts of fans for “The Walking Dead”? After the lukewarm reception for the return of the franchises biggest character (Rick Grimes), “The Walking Dead: Dead City” seems to have an insurmountable hill to climb.
With fan interest at an all-time low, Scott Gimple will have to pull out all the stops if he wants a chance of regaining any of the fanbase that have been lost. AMC has dropped very few promos/trailers for the season, which isn’t the best sign – but the have show a bear…that’s right a bear. GoT did do a Zombie Polar Bear almost to perfection, but we’re still excited to see TWD’s take on the king of the forest.

We have also learned recently that JDM’s real-life wife (and wife in the show), will be returning to the TWD-Universe although it’s worth noting that her character is long dead. So any incarnation of Lucille is either going to be a flashback or hallucinatory ghost. That’s not to say JDM won’t turn his chemistry with his wife into on-screen magic, but it is limiting as far as hat she can do in the story…aside from manipulating Negan.
AMC has also released the episode titles for the aeaesn and they are as follows: “Power Equals Power”, “Another Shit Lesson”, “Why Did the Mainlanders Cross the River?”, “Feisty Friendly”, “The Bird Always Knows”, “Bridge Partners Are Hard to Come by These Days”, “Novi Dan, Novi Početak” (Croatian translation: New Day, New Beginning), “If History Were a Conflagration”.

Some of the titles are interesting but not much to be learned from them aside from some story points involving crossing into the island of Manhattan. Season 1 was exciting although the new characters were not given enough time to resonate with the audience, similar to TOWL. Hopefully season 2 will earn from the lessons of TOWL and Daryl Dixon’s sophomore season, but it’s tough to have high hopes after all the TWD fandom has been through.

We know we will get a bear, we know we’re getting an electrified Lucille and that Maggie will hold Lucille at some point, which is a weird full circle to visualize and a tough story point to swallow. Our biggest hope is for a Rick Grimes or Daryl Dixon cameo to get people excited about TWD again, because it’s a lot tougher these days to find a die-hard TWD lover.
What do you think? Will we get any VIP cameos? Can we expect to see Maggie Lucille some poor unsuspecting soul?
