“Peacemaker” Season 2 Trailer Promises Action Packed Laughs, Explains Transition To DCU?

It’s been over three years since the season 1 finale of “Peacemaker” and all of us fans have been dying to see more John Cena being one of the most ridiculous super-heroes that the world ever found out that it needed. During San Diego Comic-Con with Cena in full costume, James Gunn would finally give us a tease of what’s to come by releasing the first full length trailer teasing “Peacemaker” season 2.

Gunn has said that “the show”Peacemaker” is the only property from the old DCEU that will be part of the DCU, but the method in which the series switches universes is currently unclear. The trailer does give us a few ideas and theories as to what might happen, but it appears we’re still going to have to wait until August 21st to get the whole story. The box office success of “Superman” has the DCU’s future looking bright, which led Gunn to capitalize on that popularity with a trailer from the highly anticipated and long awaited series about Christopher Smith aka the Peacemaker. Warning, beyond this point there are spoilers for the “Peacemaker” season 2 trailer.

The trailer starts with the gang a reuniting to have some beers, with Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) and Economos (Steve Agee) having a lighthearted moment in a social setting alongside Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) , Peacemaker and Harcourt (Jennifer Holland). After the DC logo kicks in, we get a peek at a more brooding Peacemaker, who’s talking about how much he’s changed to scene else, likely Harcourt. The monologue ends with Harcourt insulting Peacemaker by saying he wears a “clown costume” before cutting away to a random action sequence. Following that moment we get Adebayo giving Peacemaker a pep talk about turning the bad into good. It appears that Peacemaker hasn’t become the superstar he thought in the eyes of the world, even though he saved the world.

The next sequence shows Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. who made a memorable appearance in “Superman” which was just recently released. Flag seems obsessed with Peacemaker, who killed his son during the events of “The Suicide Squad” (2021), where Cena made his debut as Peacemaker. It seems Flag’s obsession with Peacemaker will end up being a major thorn in Peacemaker’s side for the next season, but it’s unlikely Flag will end up being the big bad. After the Flag sequence, where it’s clear that Peacemaker is going to be detained by Flag at some point, we don’t see any evidence of a major confrontation. The next sequence shows Adebayo trying to convince Harcourt that Peacemaker is in love with her, but Harcourt says they will “never be a thing”.

The moment after that may explain how Peacemaker ends up transitioning universes, as he opens the portal from his dad’s house that was teased briefly in season 1. We believe this is how Peacemaker could end up in a different universe, one where David Corenswet’s Superman is the ‘Man of Steel’ instead of Henry Cavill. Cena’s voiceover while we see the portals first opened is “I’m going to make a life in the other world.” Which supports our theory about universe hopping.
Next up we see Vig asking Peacemaker to further explain the alternate universe and Peacemaker des rules it as the “best dimension ever”. Here we see an alt-version of Harcourt that’s much more friendly than Peacemakers current version, but isn’t her rough exterior what he loves about her?

After seeing Flagh and company return in an effort to close down the dimensional rift that Peacemaker is creating with his portal, we find out that Economos will be getting a new partner… everyone’s favorite season 1 villain – Judomaster! Apparently the skilled fighter has been recruited by the good guys; and his first response to Economos is “Hey Fatty.” Dye-Beard is less than thrilled at this new turn of events as he literally screams in the next shot. After a cool shot of Peacemaker flying, we see the team assembling to try to get him back, but it’s unclear exactly where they are trying to get him from.

The trailer action wraps up by teasing a brief fight between two versions of Peacemaker and lets us know that the series will be available Thursdays at 9, starting August 21st. We’re blessed with one final scene as Vigilante leads his team of pals down to his ‘secret room’ and they meet his mom. Vig’s mom gets in a good burn on Economos before the trailer ends and the HBO Max logo cuts back in. Luckily we only have to wait less than a month before we get new “Peacemaker”, but the wait has been brutal. Gunn will undoubtedly be flying high off the wings of “Superman”, but there’s still a lot of hype for “Peacemaker” to live up to.

What do you think? How will Peacemaker transition into the DCU/? WIll his other team members also make their way into this new universe? Or will their AU doppelgängers end up replacing the roles the actors have already played? What character is Michael Rooker playing? Could the 2 Peacemakers swap universes.
