‘Dead City’ has had an exciting run so far in its sophomore outing, but the critics haven’t seemed to notice. At 63%, Season 2’s Rotten Tomatoes score is lower than most of the spin-offs besides the I’ll-fated ‘World Beyond’ and a few of the worst seasons of ‘Fear’. The show has managed to get the hardcore fan community excited enough, to the point that some allegedly major spoilers were recently leaked for the last two episodes…seemingly a rite of passage for the more popular spin-offs that the fans care enough to seek out spoilers for. Warning, beyond this point there will be spoilers for “The Walling Dead: Dead City” season 2, episode 5. Episode 5 started the back half of the season and soundly rejected multiple leaks as fakes, through some unexpected and surprising major character deaths. There’s also one character who is possibly In imminent mortal jeopardy, but the internet seems divided on that one.

“The Bird Always Knows” was a misleading title for an episode that snuffed out so many characters, entire communities and even one innocent bystander pet rodent. ‘Dead City’ season 1 was criticized by more than a few for killing off most of the characters that were introduced, which seems strange if all these hardened survivors have lasted so long which is in our opinion, a valid criticism. The series creators and Scott Gimple did not have any problem ignoring that concern this season as the fifth episode wiped multiple communities completely off the map.
Christos and his people were on the verge of being won over by Negan’s charm when the Croat crashed the party with deadly gas and head smashing. The very interesting park community the Foragers were also pretty much entirely wiped out of existence. Maggie was almost hung and Negan managed to turn middle management against upper management. All in all, an eventful episode although the most major deaths featured very little screaming to being eaten and burned alive.

The major deaths instantly proved the online spoilers wrong, who teased us with a promise of the return of Dwight…which would actually be pretty epic.
With 3 episodes left in the show’s 8 episode season, there are still a lot of loose ends and potential for major twists, with hopefully at least one surprise cameo.
One of the more interesting turns on the episode was Ginny, who turned on Maggie but then had a change of heart. As Ginny watched New Babylon execute the Foragers Leader and put Maggie on a noose, she realized the mistake she made earlier in stopping Maggie by holding Hershel at gunpoint. During these events, the ensuing walker attack caused enough chaos to get Hershel, Maggie, Perlie and Ginny free….with pretty much everyone else on site dead or assumed dead.

During this struggle Ginny was injured, but the nature of her injuries have been interpreted vastly differently. We saw the injury and suspected it was a bite, but it also looked like it could be from a sharp weapon. Screen Rant believes she was impaled on something sharp drying the initial scuffle of the herd attack while the news outlet TV Line reported that Ginny was bitten.
Fans have not had a clear discussion about this online that we could find, so it’s really tough to say if Ginny’s days are numbered, or if she will make it to the end to face Negan and possibly make him pay for her dad’s death. Will she ever have a ‘been there, done that’ conversation with Hershel since the guy murdered both their dads?
What do you think? Are you up to date in ‘Dead City’? Is Ginny a goner? Are the spoilers about Negan being killed in the finale true? Will the Croat die in episode 7? How will Hershel take the news of the Dama’s death? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
