Dead City 2 Finally Gets A Release Date…Plus An Ominous Tease

IGN FanFest 2025 gave us some long awaited news about TWD’s take on NYC. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan and TWD-U Godfather Scott Gimple all sat down for an interview during the event and revealed the release date (05/04/25) as well as some scarce story details.

Negan actor JDM did tease Lucille being back and we just wonder if fans will now cheer for another groups ‘Glenn’ getting Lucille’d in Manhattan. Morgan also reveals that Negan will be in an unhappy place, answering to the Dama and the Croat but he will ultimately try to flip the script on them. Has Negan bitten off more than he can chew? Is NYC Negan going to be even more dangerous?

TWD exec Gimple would tease villains for the season and tells us there is no single bad, which could be interesting or could be scatterbrained, depending on the execution. Cohan talked about the episode she directed (her directorial debut) which ended up being one of the most VFX heavy episodes in the universe ever. Will Cohan’s debut outshine the first episode ever helmed by TWD Alum, Michael Cudlitz? “Stradivarius”, the penultimate episode in TWD season 9A is a fan favorite and a tough one to beat. Cohan did let some major story point slip as she mentions “…another big bad thing happens.” What is this big bad thing? Could TWD boss bring in a beloved character like Aaron, just to kill them off?

As far as the release date, Cohan confirmed that TWD has hijacked a major Star Wars holiday…May the 4th, 2025. A little more than 2 months away which tells us we should get a full length trailer in the next month or so with stylized teasers scattered about.

The TWD trio finished up their interview by showing off the fist few minutes from season 2, and it looks like a lot of fun so far. Great music, fun concept and an interesting hook at the end that definitely has our interest piqued.

What do you think? Will we get to see the return of Classc Negan? Can we expect to see a Grimes cameo or at least a mention now that TOWL has aired?
What about a setup for the alleged spin-offs being developed? Tune in on May 4th to find out and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
