Netflix Gives “3 Body Problem” Hopeful Update, But Doesn’t Give Confirmation

Love or hate Netflix’ business model, you do have to admit they have put out some classics over the years. One of their most recent pop culture phenoms, “3 Body Problem” by “Game of Thrones” creators has finally ben given an update. As we are all painfully aware, many good-to-great shows drop out of nowhere and then we don’t see anything from them for 2-3 years…and we forgot why we loved them at that point! It’s a brutal cycle and very few of these shows seem to notice or care.
“3 Body Problem” might be l;ooking to buck that trend, but it’s a little more nuanced than that if you examine the comments made by Netflix. In a new reports from “What’s on Netflix”, the massively popular science fiction series “3 Body Problem” is about to start production “…with both upcoming seasons likely set to be filmed back to back, akin to the recent example of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which was similarly renewed for a second and third season together.”

…with both upcoming seasons likely set to be filmed back to back, akin to the recent example of
“Avatar: The Last Airbender”, which was similarly renewed for a second and third season together.

The wording of their statement on the surface seems positive but we are stumped as to why they can’t confirm the seasons are shooting back to back. Why are the announcing this news that the seasons “are likely” to be shot back to back? Was this statement made just to gauge fan reaction? Most GoT fans remember what the infamous D&D did to our beloved Westeros, so it’s not irrational to be a little suspicious. Or did someone just get antsy to make an announcement before all the puzzle pieces lined up?
One thing that is undeniable i that “3 Body Problem” has potential to blow our collective minds if done right, without an unreasonable delay. Scheduling conflicts among actors and crew are likely the reason why this news can’t be confirmed yet, but again, why jump the gun with a ‘maybe’? To be optimistic, let’s hope that things go off without a hitch and we get season 2 in late 2025 or early 2026 and then season 3 six to ten months later. That is probably best case given the vast scope of this project along with the myriad effects used, both inside the VR game that is part of the plot and the actual alien invasion that is slowly underway throughout the series.

Overall, it’s exciting news in itself that Netflix is trying to shoot the remainder of the series back to back. Liu Cixin’s mega-popular sci-fi trilogy will match one season per book, but it’s worth noting that there are other books in this universe so who knows what th future may hold for this franchise. It’s also been somewhat confirmed that both seasons will move their filming location from the U.K. to Hungary, which wa reinforced by the Producer/Director sharing images from Budapest. As obvious with any sci-fi franchise that is heavily theorized and has beloved source material, the production is likely to be shrouded in secrecy..

What do you think? Will “”Dune: Messiah””3 Body Problem” stick the landing? Or will we have another GoT Season 7 vibe? What big Hollywood names might be cast for seasons 2 & 3? Let us know in the comments below!
