Oscar From “The Office” Is Back! Could This Open Doors For More Dunder Mifflin Alum?

It’s no new news that the untitled Office folllow-up (rumored to be called “The Paper”) is in the works, but creators had been trying to keep a pretty big secret about a major in universe character returning.

This Wednesday, the newsletter The Insneider leaked the news that the character Oscar Martinez (played by Oscar Nuñez) will be returning to the universe of “The Office” which Variety has since confirmed. It’s also confirmed that Oscar isn’t the main character, it’s an ensemble cast like the original series…but Oscar will be in the character mix.

This gives us hope for other cameos by Dunder Mifflin Alum, but it’s worth noting that Creator Greg Daniels has stated that he told a complete story for most of the characters. However, he also said Oscar was one character that he would’t mind revisiting. We want to emphasize the fact that he said “most” characters, leaving the door open for some other fan favorites. Can Kevin keep his bar forever? What’s going on with Creed? Is Meredith’s son still stripping?

What we do know about the new show is that it will follow the workers at a dying Midwestern Newspaper outlet, which is why the alleged title “The Paper” seems like a good fit. The same documentary crew from Dunder Mifflin will be filming this historic newspaper, who have some innovative ideas to revitalize their business with volunteer reporters…whatever that means. The writers room for the series began in January 2024 with Production supposedly commencing in July ’24, but any official notices of Production beginning or ending are non-existent. We are predicting a passible fall 2025 release, but episode count and many other factors could change that.

What do you think? Will Oscar be dealing with the newspaper as a Dunder Mifflinite? Or something else entirely? Did he ever win his bid to be a local politician?
